Scar Deactivations and Pain

What is a scar?

A Scar is an area of fibrous, thick, and dense tissue that develops in and around an incision from any surgery. It also results from the biological process of  wound repair from any injury to the skin and other tissues of the body. Scarring is a natural part of the healing process, and therefore, with the exception of very minor lesions, every wound after an accident, surgery or even disease results in some degree of scarring.

What are symptoms of a Scar that may need “Deactivated”?

Something frequently overlooked when dealing with pain issues are the presence of scars. These can be very old scars or fairly new scars from any and all surgeries, trauma or diseases that effected the skin.

Scars may not seem to be causing any problems until something else changes in the body. This could be due to weight gain or loss, a new diet, another surgery or trauma, or a new exercise program.

Scars can clearly wreak havoc and pull tissue from underneath causing pain, burning, itching, or some other unpleasant sensation. This pulling can span a much greater distance than is realized, so pain may actually be thought to come from a totally different place.

What is a Scar Deactivation Treatment?

First, there is an injection of a holistic solution right into the scar. Then, the scar is either surrounded by acupuncture needles or cupping is done to the scar and to the surrounding area.

We have done as little as three treatments to soften or “deactivate” an old appendectomy scar to ten treatments to flatten and resolve the intense redness and thickness of a thyroidectomy scar to fifteen treatments to flatten and resolve all pain associated with a very thick, stubborn ankle scar from a melanoma surgery that involved a graft which had gotten infected.

Is this procedure covered by my insurance?

This procedure is mostly covered by insurances, but the holistic solution which is injected is typically not covered. Aside from a copay for the visit, there is usually no more than a $30 out-of-pocket expense.
